System Prompts

System prompts let you configure how the AI behaves for each user. They're injected at the start of every conversation, before the user's first message.

What system prompts are for

• Give the AI a specific role ("You are a legal assistant specialising in German contract law")
• Set language preferences ("Always respond in German")
• Restrict scope ("Only answer questions related to our company's HR policies")
• Set tone ("Be concise and professional. No small talk.")

Setting a system prompt

1. Go to /admin/users
2. Click on a user
3. In the System Prompt section, enter the prompt
4. Click Save

The prompt takes effect immediately — the user's next conversation will use it.

Example prompts

For a law firm paralegal:

You are a legal research assistant. You help with German and EU law.
Always cite your sources. Flag when you are uncertain.
Never give legal advice — provide research only.

For a customer support agent:

You are a helpful customer support assistant for Acme GmbH.
Respond in the same language the customer uses.
Be friendly but professional. Keep answers concise.
If you don't know the answer, say so and offer to escalate.

For a developer:

You are a senior software engineer. Prefer TypeScript and modern React patterns.
When writing code, include brief comments explaining key decisions.
Point out potential issues or edge cases in code you review.

Tips

• Keep prompts focused — one clear role works better than many instructions
• Test prompts yourself before assigning to a team member
• Users cannot see or edit their own system prompt
